A quick and easy homemade strawberry sauce recipe, perfect for topping pancakes, waffles, cheesecake, or ice cream. Made with fresh or frozen strawberries, this versatile sauce is sweet, tangy, and ready in just 15 minutes.
Ingredients
2 cups fresh or frozen strawberries, hulled and halved
1/3 cup granulated sugar (adjust to taste)
1 teaspoon lemon juice
1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water (optional, for thickening)
Instructions
- In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine strawberries, sugar, and lemon juice. Stir to coat the strawberries with sugar.
- Cook, stirring occasionally, for 5-7 minutes until the strawberries release their juices and soften.
- For a thicker sauce, mix cornstarch with water and stir into the saucepan. Simmer for an additional 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens.
- Remove from heat. For a chunky sauce, leave it as is, or mash/blend for a smoother consistency.
- Allow to cool slightly before serving.
Notes
Adjust sugar to suit your taste based on the sweetness of the strawberries.
The cornstarch slurry is optional; the sauce will naturally thicken slightly as it cools.
Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week or freeze for up to three months.
