Creamy, smooth, and full of bold Mexican flavors, this restaurant-style queso dip is the perfect appetizer! Whether you’re dipping tortilla chips, drizzling over nachos, or adding it to tacos, this easy homemade cheese dip is ready in just 15 minutes and tastes just like your favorite Mexican restaurant’s queso. With white American cheese, green chilies, and spices, this simple yet delicious dip is a must-try!

Ingredients

2 teaspoons onion powder

2 teaspoons garlic powder

2 teaspoons cumin

2 cans chopped green chilies

1 tablespoon butter or margarine

1/2 cup milk, or as needed

1 pound white American cheese, cubed

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan over low heat, melt the butter or margarine.
  2. Add the chopped green chilies, onion powder, garlic powder, and cumin. Stir well to combine.
  3. Gradually add the cubed white American cheese, stirring constantly to prevent sticking.
  4. Slowly pour in the milk, stirring until the cheese melts into a smooth, creamy consistency. Add more milk if needed to reach the desired texture.
  5. Once fully melted and heated through, remove from heat and serve immediately.
  6. Enjoy warm with tortilla chips, over nachos, or as a topping for tacos and burritos.

Notes

Spicy Variation: Add diced jalapeños or a dash of hot sauce for extra heat.

Smoky Flavor: Stir in a bit of smoked paprika.

Extra Creamy: Mix in heavy cream or evaporated milk for a richer texture.

Tex-Mex Twist: Add cooked chorizo or ground beef for extra flavor.

Cheese Swap: Substitute part of the white American cheese with shredded pepper jack for added spice.
