Description
A quick and flavorful skillet dinner with juicy shrimp, smoky sausage, crisp-tender broccoli, onion, and garlic tossed in a savory soy and lemon sauce. Ready in just 25 minutes for an easy weeknight meal.
Ingredients
Shrimp, peeled and deveined
Smoked sausage, sliced
Broccoli florets
Garlic cloves, minced
Onion, sliced
Olive oil
Soy sauce
Butter
Red pepper flakes
Salt
Black pepper
Lemon juice
Water
Instructions
- Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the sliced smoked sausage and cook until nicely browned. Remove the sausage from the skillet and set aside.
- Add the shrimp to the same skillet and season with salt and black pepper. Cook just until pink and opaque, then remove and set aside with the sausage.
- Add a little more olive oil or butter to the skillet if needed. Add the sliced onion and minced garlic and sauté until the onion begins to soften and the garlic is fragrant.
- Add the broccoli florets and a small splash of water. Cover the skillet and steam until the broccoli is tender-crisp.
- Return the browned sausage and cooked shrimp to the skillet with the broccoli.
- Add the soy sauce, lemon juice, and red pepper flakes. Toss until everything is evenly coated and heated through.
- Taste and adjust the salt, black pepper, soy sauce, or lemon juice as desired. Serve immediately while hot.
Notes
Bell peppers, zucchini, mushrooms, snap peas, asparagus, or green beans can be substituted for or combined with the broccoli.
For more heat, increase the red pepper flakes or add chili sauce. Omit the red pepper flakes for a milder dish.
Kielbasa, andouille, chicken sausage, or turkey sausage can be used in place of smoked sausage.
Add a small amount of honey or brown sugar for a sweeter sauce, or drizzle with sesame oil for toasted flavor.
Serve over steamed rice, brown rice, cauliflower rice, quinoa, or noodles.
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat gently in a skillet with a splash of water or microwave in short intervals to avoid overcooking the shrimp.
Frozen shrimp may be used if completely thawed and patted dry before cooking.
